Lets salute all our doctors on this National Doctor’s Day in India !

When the world is struggling to survive a pandemic, there is probably no better time to remember the ‘national doctor’ whose story is a mix of hard work, talent, success despite racial discrimination, love for his homeland and an unmatched dedication towards his profession.

National Doctors day in India is celebrated on July 1 to mark the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, popularly known as B.C Roy, who was a physician, freedom fighter, philanthropist and also the former Chief Minister of Bengal. Besides this, B.C Roy also founded the Indian Medical Association, Medical Council of India and the Indian Institute of Mental Health.

Today, in terms of doctors and medical colleges, India is said to have the most number of medical colleges in the world. India has one doctor for every 921 people, as of December 2017, which is way ahead of the doctor-population ratio of 1:1000 prescribed by the World Health Organisation.

Though the profession was always held in high regard, the current Coronavirus pandemic is making us realize the importance of the noble profession.

Our Healthline workers work in close proximity with patients and are in grave danger of being infected themselves, but their selflessness and dedication are helping us fight this pandemic, one recovery at a time.
