And a day to honor every pollinator out there
Did you know most pollinators aren’t honey bees? From butterflies and beetles to bats, birds, flies, moths — and even some wasps — wild species are essential for pollinating the plants that feed us.
In fact, an estimated 80% of global crop pollination is carried out by just 2% of wild bee species. Managed honey bees alone can’t fully replace the vital role of wild pollinators.
That’s why today we’re also celebrating the communities in UNESCO #BiosphereReserves across 130+ countries who help wild pollinators thrive by Restoring native ecosystems Maintaining traditional agricultural practices Educating future generations
Discover how they’re making a difference through UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme.
